Bruna Loureiro
Hi, I’m Bruna! I’m 28, a Portuguese language, reading, and writing teacher, and the mom of Dante, a bright little five-year-old who brings so much color and meaning to my life. For the past seven years, I’ve been building a life with someone I’d choose to share every other lifetime with.
I’m curious about the world and get a little impatient with things I already know. I’d rather have coffee with orange juice on the side than an espresso, love trying dishes I’ve never had before, and, if life were one big menu, I’d always go for something new.
Books are a big part of my life. Two of my favorites are Oração Para Desaparecer (A Prayer to Disappear), a story about love, faith, and belonging, and Capitães da Areia (Captains of the Sands), which I read when I was 14 and which had a direct impact on the way I see the world politically. I’m incredibly proud of Brazilian literature, and yes, I believe we have the best culture in the world.
I’m passionate about Latin American literature, and one of the reasons I started learning Spanish was that I wanted to read, in their original language, books that haven’t been translated yet.
I can’t stand the idea of living the same day over and over again. Routine makes me feel like I’m in The Truman Show. One of the worst things I can imagine is looking back on my life and realizing I spent too much of it doing the same things over and over.
Speaking of shows, one of my favorite things is seeing my favorite artists live. My dream is to see Beyoncé, who, in my opinion, is the greatest artist in the world.
My dad had a huge influence on my taste in movies because, for him, watching films together is a way of showing love. He introduced me to the classics I know today, as well as the work of Fincher, Coppola, Tarantino, Lee, and Almodóvar, helping me build a pretty extensive knowledge of cinema. I spent much of my childhood behind the scenes at a video rental store, playing behind the curtain while my dad worked. Aquarius, by Kleber Mendonça Filho, is a film that holds a special place in my heart, all its own.
I’m deeply religious and have a strong faith in spirituality.
I was born on May 21, making me a Gemini, and I know how to read tarot cards. I believe in the properties of crystals, herbal baths, ancestral protection, dreams, and superstitions. And I believe that education has the power to change any reality
