Manas Ruidas

Manas Ruidas is a Bengali filmmaker from West Bengal, India, currently pursuing a postgraduate diploma in Screenplay Writing and Film Direction at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata. Working across writing, direction, editing, and production, his practice explores the intersections of caste, class, labour, and political life in contemporary Bengal. His short film 'Name' received the Jury Prize for Best Film at the TURI Film Festival in 2023. His film 'Sujans Don’t Live Here Anymore' was selected for the competition section of the 30th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), while 'Echoes of Silent Dialogues' was a semi-finalist at the Janakpur International Film Festival in Nepal. Rooted in his engagement with Bengal’s social realities, Ruidas is interested in cinema as a means of examining marginalised lives, structural inequalities, and the histories that shape everyday existence. His work seeks to explore the relationship between personal experience and larger political structures through an attentive and formally inquisitive cinematic practice.
