Pia Benegal
Pia Benegal has been a Costume Designer for over three decades, with experience in film, television, and theatre. Known for her authentic approach, she excels in both realistic genres and period dramas. Her latest project, 'Gandhi' (presently in post-production), is a TV Series on Gandhi's earliest days and his days as a lawyer, showing the lesser-known stories of his life that played an important role in shaping him into a Mahatma. Pia's notable films include 'Mujib: The Making of a Nation', 'Aligarh', 'Bose: The Forgotten Hero', 'Mammo', 'Zubeidaa', 'Suraj Ka Satwan Ghoda', 'Hari Bhari', 'Welcome to Sajjanpur', 'Sardari Begum', 'Dil Se', 'Well Done Abba', 'English', 'August', 'Drohkaal', and 'Bombay Boys'.
In television, Pia worked on the ten-part series Samvidhaan, and other shows like Siyaasat. She also contributed to the docu-drama Jang-E-Azadi, featured at the museum in Kartarpur, Punjab, and designed for the play Gauhar, performed across India and internationally.
Pia won the Lux Cine Zee Award for Best Costume Design for 'Sardari Begum' in 1998. Her work on the BBC-2 docu-drama 'Last Days of the Raj' earned a BAFTA nomination in 2008.
A passionate traveler, nature lover, and photographer, Pia has also served as a jury member for the Kashish Film Festival in 2013, the Laadli Film and Book Awards in 2018, and the LIFFT India Filmotsav-World Cine Fest in 2017 and 2018.
